Who or what is sliding dovetails?

Welcome to sliding dovetails on Squarespace. Sliding dovetails is a one-man woodworking shop run by me, Devin Taylor, located in Davis, California. My background and skillset are made up of a mixture of things. I have spent much of the past >25 years (and still continue) doing fieldwork in places like the Southwest USA, California, Costa Rica, Galapagos-Ecuador, Mexico, the Alaskan Arctic, and a few places in-between, almost always with avian research projects. When not doing fieldwork (roughly March->August) I have worked in the field of education, and when working in schools, I have been expanding my woodworking skillset little-by-little. I started spending more time with wood while taking some classes at Oregon College of Art & Craft, then while I was attending UCDavis, I started using the UCDavis Craft Center as if were part of my academic curriculum. More recently, I attended the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship (CFC) for 3-months in their furniture intensive course in Maine. I have always enjoyed building and making things, but it was at CFC that I learned about making finer woodwork. Most of the work on this site is smaller scale items offered for sale, but I also have some pages dedicated to larger projects I have made since finishing the CFC class.
